Biographical/Historical:     The Palmer family came to Florida from South Carolina, settling in Monticello in Jefferson County, in 1829. In 1856, Samuel Augustus Palmer (1827-1918) married Mary Rebecca Gassaway (1838-1884), the daughter of Reverend William Gassaway Jr (1794-1839) and Mary Ann Christopher (1811-1873). They had several children, one of whom was Henry Edwards Palmer (1866-1944).

    Maud Hamilton Myers (1874-1903) was born to Thomas Perkins Myers and Mary Hamilton (Screven) Meginniss. She married Henry Edwards Palmer in 1894. The couple lived in Tallahassee and had three children: Council Bryan, Thomas Myers, and Hugh Archer. In 1923, Thomas Myers Palmer (1897-1984) married Helen Theresa Yaeger of Tallahassee.

Summary:     This collection consists of photographic images depicting various members from multiple generations of the Palmer family of North Florida, as well as some extended family members. The portrait photos are of Mary Ann Christopher Gassaway (Thomas M. Palmer's paternal great-grandmother), Mary Hamilton Screven Meginniss (Thomas's maternal grandmother), and two unidentified women, one of whom is holding an infant. There are also two photos depicting Helen Theresa Yeager Palmer (Thomas's wife) with several children at a FERA nursery in Jacksonville, Florida. The types of photographs include daguerreotypes, an ambrotype, and black-and-white prints.
