Biographical/Historical:     Tom Ray Taggart (1905-1984) was a local photographer of the Tampa Bay area. During his career he worked for Robertson and Fresh Photography and then later on for Burgert Brothers Photography. His photography, focusing on the Tampa Bay area and its development into a major metropolitan area during the mid-20th century, was initially housed at the University of South Florida before it was transferred to the State Archives of Florida.
Summary:     The collection consists of over 10,000 photo negatives taken by Tom Taggart. The dates these were taken range from the 1940s through the 1970s. The photos largely depict the history and culture of the emerging Tampa Bay area, with aerial industrial shots and of the construction of the Howard Franklin Bridge, among various local community events and institutions.
