Biographical/Historical:     Margaret Brennan Long was born in New York City on May 11, 1905, while her parents were visiting from Jacksonville. A graduate of Duval High School in 1923, Long was a longtime public servant of Duval County. Long earned a bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Florida State College for Women in 1927 and a master's degree from Colorado Agricultural College. She served as the Supervisor of Home Economics for Duval County Public Schools from 1943-1970 and was a key member of the Home and Community Services Committee of the Duval County Defense Council during World War II. Long moved to Waycross, Georgia in 1972, where she died on July 24, 1992.


Summary:     This series documents the professional life of Margaret Brennan Long. Records consist of photographs, scrapbooks, and newspaper clippings. Of note, is the collection of her "What's Cookin'" column where she published recipes under the name Margaret Butterfield that aligned with household food rations for the Duval County Defense Council.
