Biographical/Historical:     Thomas A. Stayner was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, in the 1820s. He was appointed Collector of Customs for the port of St. Marks, Florida, in 1866, and served as a voter registrar for Wakulla County in 1867. Stayner died by drowning on August 4, 1869.

    Turner Duling was born in Georgia in 1840. He served as a voter registrar for Wakulla County in 1867, along with Stayner. Duling also served as Fernandina's tax collector and second Black City Marshall from 1871 to 1881, and as a Nassau County Justice of the Peace from 1871 to 1877.

Summary:     This single-item collection contains a letter from Thomas A. Stayner to Colonel Hark of Jacksonville. The letter is a  request for commissions for himself and Turner Duling so they can proceed with their appointments as voter registrars in Wakulla County.
