Biographical/Historical:     The GFWC Woman's Club of Tallahassee, one of the city's oldest civic organizations, was started in 1903 with a mission to improve life in Florida's capital city. The club is part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), an international woman's organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. Its main priorities have been education, historic preservation, the arts, public issues, international outreach, home life, and conservation.

    After raising funds for the construction of a clubhouse, the Mediterranean Revival-style edifice, located at 1513 Cristobal Drive, Los Robles, Tallahassee, opened in 1927. This clubhouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Summary:     This collection documents the organization, administration, and activities of the Woman's Club of Tallahassee from 1927 to 2012. The collection includes administrative binders, meeting minutes, correspondences, annual reports, newsletters, financial records, scrapbooks, photo albums, and other ephemera. The records are organized into 18 series as described below.

    Series 1: Administrative Books and Binders, 1903-2017. This series includes administrative books and binders the Woman's Club kept. Each binder holds varying records ranging from event programs to meeting agendas.

    Series 2: Minute Books, 1922-2012. This series consists of the Woman's Club's meeting minutes. Some of the earlier minute books have handwritten minutes, while the more recent ones are typed and printed.

    Series 3: Annual Reports, 1925-2010. This series consists of the Woman's Club's annual reports, in which different club leadership positions completed a report stating what they had accomplished in the previous year.

    Series 4: Financial Documents, 1935-2012. This series includes several types of financial documents ranging from event budgets to banking records.

    Series 5: Correspondences, 1931-2012. This series includes handwritten and email correspondences between club leadership and its members, as well as between the Woman's Club and outside entities. This series holds a lengthy email exchange about issues with the Club's catering service. It also contains numerous thank you letters and event invitations.

    Series 6: Bylaws, Rules, and Contracts. This series includes various records related to club rules, by-laws, resolutions, and contracts. It also contains guidebooks for club leadership positions.

    Series 7: Newsletters, 1936-2012. This series contains the Woman's Club's newsletters discussing future club events, luncheon menus, and current affairs.

    Series 8: Membership Paperwork, 1950-2009. The bulk of this series includes lists of member withdrawals or removal from club membership.

    Series 9: Yearbooks, 1906-2012. This series contains the Woman's Club's yearbooks. These yearbooks document club leadership roles and membership.

    Series 10: Community Service. This series includes varies records related to members' community service, outreach, and volunteer work. It contains several fundraiser flyers and programs, as well as guidebooks and score sheets that tracked members' community service hours.

    Series 11: Historic Preservation. This series includes drafts of chapters of the Club's history, records about the clubhouse's listing on the National Register of Historic Places, and documentation about Tallahassee's Historic Capitol.

    Series 12: State and National Federation Records. This series includes flyers and programs from the General Federation of Women's Clubs' annual conventions. It also contains magazines and bulletins published by the General Federation.

    Series 13: Club Life. This series includes records discussing different aspects of life in the Woman's Club. Its contents range from clubhouse floorplans to paperwork related to club annual trips. This series also includes a collection of awards given to the Woman's Club as well as member questionnaires in which members explained how involved they were in club life and what they enjoyed or disliked about it.

    Series 14: Miscellaneous Records. This series contains various records and ephemera the Woman's Club possessed. It includes copies of two Florida Bills as well as flyers and business cards belonging to various Tallahassee businesses. One of the records is a copy of Florida's Americanism versus Communism course.

    Series 15: Photographs. This series contains photographs taken and collected by the Woman's Club.

    Series 16: Newspaper Clippings, 1927-2011. This series includes numerous newspaper clippings of articles related to club activities. They are organized chronologically.

    Series 17: Scrapbooks, 1930-2017. This series contains scrapbooks created by the Woman's Club. These scrapbooks include newspaper clippings, photographs, and event flyers and programs. Box 55 contains a program of Jeb Bush's gubernatorial inauguration.

    Series 18: Photo Albums, 1982-2010. This series contains photo albums of club members. These photographs depict members at various events.
