Born in New York in 1828, Mary Rhoda Hudson (nee Warren) moved to Florida with the majority of her family in the early 1900s. In 1852, Mary wed Benjamin Ingram, and they had two children together, Mabel Rebecca "Becca" Ingram (1858-1930) and Lizzie Warren Ingram (1860-1873). After Benjamin Ingram's death in 1862, Mary married James Asbury Hudson in 1869. Mary and James had a son, Frederick Mitchell Hudson, whom Mary lived with or near for the rest of her life.
Mabel Rebecca "Becca" Ingram married John Robert Cason in 1879, and they had eight children. Becca's children and grandchildren lived throughout Florida in places including Ojus, Delray, Lakeland, and Miami. Mary "Madie" Cason (1880-1935), Becca and John's first child, married James W. Ives, a truck driver, in 1900. They had one son, John Cason "Cason" Ives (1903-1977). John Robert "Roy" Cason Jr, the second child of Becca and John, was a doctor in Delray, Florida. Roy married Mary Sloan in 1906 and had three children: Robert S Cason (1907-1947), Joanna Cason (1909-2001), and Mary Katherine Cason (1912-1995). Jessie Rebecca Cason (1883-1961), the third child of Becca and John, married James Luther "Luther" Love, and they lived in Delray where Luther was both a pharmacist and the Post Master. Jessie and Luther had six children: Mary Love (1911-1976), James Luther Love Jr (1913-2005), John Robert/Thomas "Jack" Love (1914-2002), Thomas Lee Love (1918-1953), Fred William Love (1922-2018), and Roberta Claire Love (1927-2015). Becca and John's fourth child, Hariette Claribel "Claribel" Cason (1885-1981), never married and worked as a teacher throughout Florida. Frederick Warren Cason, the fifth child of Becca and John, worked as a lawyer in Miami throughout the early half of the 1900s. Frederick married Bess Turner in 1915. Martha Crawford Cason, the sixth child of Becca and John, married John Flavel Wilson in Tampa in 1910. John was a physician and the pair lived in Lakeland with their one daughter, Frances "Murry" Wilson (1911-1990). Frances "Roberta" Cason (1894-1921), the seventh child of Becca and John, married Reginald V. Waters in 1919. The pair lived most of their lives in Miami. Andrew Evander "Van" Cason (1895-1948) was the youngest children of Becca and John. Van married Virginia Lee and had one son, Andrew Evander Cason, in 1924.
Frederick Mitchell Hudson married Nora Bell Andrews, affectionately referred to as "Aunt Nodie," and they had three children.
Summary:
The collection contains letters written to and collected by Mary Rhoda Hudson (nee Warren) from her daughter, Mabel "Becca" Cason, and grandchildren. The letters are routine in nature, discussing health, sicknesses, births, farming, financial matters, and life in general. Most of the letters were written between the years 1912 and 1915. The collection also contains a postcard with a picture of Mt. Vernon displayed as well as a graduation announcement for one of Mary's grandchildren.
