The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:       The Division of Elections was created as part of the Department of State in 1969 (Ch. 69-106, Laws of Florida). Prior to 1969, election records were maintained by the Office of the Secretary of State. The Division administers all elections (primary, special and general) and supports local supervisors of elections offices.

    The Bureau of Election Records handles candidate and political committee filings including campaign finance and qualifying papers. The Bureau also processes commissions of office for elected officials on behalf of the Governor.

Summary:     The series contains copies of commission certificates for judges from 2000-2009. The certificates were filed with the Secretary of State according to Chapter 113.06 F.S. Each certificate specifies:  the name of the person being commissioned; the office title; the term of office; official signature of the Governor and Secretary of State; and occasionally the date of filing of oath and bond by the commissioned officer. Oaths of office are sometimes included after the commission certificate.
