Biographical/Historical:     Coleman Sweeting Dixon (1911-1979) was born in Mulberry in Polk County, Florida. While still a child, he moved with his family to Tallahassee to live with his grandfather Henry Newton Sweeting in a house on Calhoun Street. His parents, Cassandra Sweeting Dixon and Warren Coleman Dixon, owned and operated Dixon Transfer, a moving company. Eventually, Coleman took over the family business and worked as a professional portrait photographer in the 1930s and 1940s. He was a member of the Tallahassee Camera Club and active in the Photographic Society of America. He is buried in St. John's Episcopal Church cemetery in Tallahassee.

Summary:     This collection contains black and white negatives of images taken by Coleman Sweeting Dixon. The images depict scenes in Tallahassee, Leon County, and the surrounding area. Subjects include landscapes, buildings, portraits, candid shots, and Tallahassee Camera Club projects.
