In addition, the department is responsible for the regulation of non-medical professions, including child and farm labor. DBPR also works to locate and eliminate unlicensed activity. The department's mission is to protect the public's health, safety and welfare through the regulation of those professions or occupational groups and businesses.

A Governor-appointed Secretary heads DPBR and is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and executing the powers, duties and functions vested in the department, its divisions, bureaus and other sub-units. DBPR is composed of ten divisions and one commission: the Division of Certified Public Accounting, the Division of Administration, the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, the Division of Hotels and Restaurants, the Division of Land Sales, Condominiums and Mobile Homes, the Division of Pari-mutual Wagering, the Division of Professions, the Division of Real Estate, the Division of Regulation, the Division of Technology, Licensure and Testing, and the Florida State Boxing Commission. DBPR is funded by revenues generated from application and licensure fees, collection of tax revenues from the sales of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, and taxes collected at pari-mutuel events.
