Biographical/Historical:     The State Board of Cosmetology was created in 1963 (Ch. 63-195, Laws).  It assumed the duties of its predecessor boards, the State Board of Beauty Culture Examiners (1935, Ch. 16800, Laws) and the State Board of Beauty Culture (1943, Ch. 21984, Laws).  In 1969, it became part of the Division of Occupations in the Dept. of Professional and Occupational Regulation (Ch. 69-106, Laws).  Its duties are to conduct examinations; to issue, renew, suspend, and revoke certificates of registration; to establish and enforce rules and regulations for the practice of cosmetology; and to assist in investigations and disciplinary cases.
Summary:     The series contains administrative files, dated 1935-1972, of the State Board of Cosmetology and its predecessor boards, the State Board of Beauty Culture and the State Board of Beauty Culture Examiners.  Included in the files are the registration books of cosmetologists (1935-1952) which list name, application number, classification, certificate number, and date.
