	Biographical/Historical:	**DEACCESSIONED**The Division of Historical Resources is part of the Florida Department of State's Office of Cultural, Historical and Information Programs (OCHIP) in the Office of the Secretary of State. The Division was created in 1986 (Chapter 86-183, Laws), assuming some of the functions of the Division of Archives, History and Records Management. The Division is mandated to preserve historical, cultural and archaeological resources for the state of Florida. The Division includes the Bureau of Historic Preservation, the Bureau of Archaeological Research and the Director's Office. The Bureau of Archaeological Research (BAR) is responsible for the state's archaeology program, carrying out archaeological surveys and excavations throughout the state. They maintain records on historical resources and assist consultants and planners in protecting sites. The bureau's Underwater Archaeology Program includes not only historic shipwreck sites but also pre-Columbian sites in underwater contexts. The bureau assists with the Department of Environmental Protection's Florida Forever program, a large state run public land acquisition project. The bureau is tasked with evaluating the existence or absense of archaeological remains in potential sites prior to acquisition. According to the Department of Environmental Protection's website, the state has purchased more than 751,513 acres of land with a little over $2.98 billion since the inception of the Florida Forever program in July 2001.
	Summary:	**DEACCESSIONED**The Florida Forever Property Acquisition Files document the review of lands considered for acquisition though the Florida Forever program administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The sites included within this series have their own case file that includes background information, project assessments, site designs, correspondence and other site-specific planning materials. Many also have final evaluation reports prepared by Acquisition and Restoration Council Liaison staff. The bulk of the files are arranged by county and then by site name. Information on projects that span multiple counties are sometimes listed alphabetically under one of the county names and are other times in the multi-county section. Sometimes, smaller sites are incorporated into similarly situated existing acquisition sites. When this occurs, the chain of site name changes is included in the folder level description. Of particular note are the Miami Circle acquisition files. The complexity and importance of the project is apparent through the amount of records created in the process of acquiring and developing the site.
