Biographical/Historical:     In the 1890's, the federal government appropriated money for a major building program to construct federal courthouses and post offices.  Jeremiah O'Rourke of the United States Treasury Dept. was the supervisory architect who prepared the architectural plans for the federal courthouse and post office building which was constructed in Tallahassee in 1893. The building was used for city hall in 1936. It was demolished in 1964.

Summary:     The collection consists of architectural drawings of the United States Courthouse and Post Office built in Tallahassee in 1893. The drawings for the initial construction were prepared by Jeremiah O'Rourke for the United States Treasury Dept. on November 10, 1892. The architectural drawings depicting lighting and electrical work were prepared by Supervising Architect Oscar Wenderoth and Chief Mechanical and Electrical Engineer Nelson S. Thompson from 1912 to 1914. The drawings depicting repair work were prepared by Supervising Architect James A. Wetmore and Chief Mechanical and Electrical Engineer Nelson S. Thompson from 1916 to 1929.

Ownership/Custodial History: The provenance of these items is unknown. The items were found on a table in the fifth floor stack area in July/August 2017. No information on the provenance or original location of these items has been found.
