Biographical/Historical:     William Munroe III (1819-1882) was born in Scotland and immigrated to the United States as a child. He came to Gadsden County around 1840 and married his first wife, Cornelia Fitzgerald (1828-1856) in 1844, and his second wife, Julia Welch (1835-1915) in 1857. Munroe was a prolific enslaver, recording 119 enslaved men, women, and children for the 1860 Federal Census.

    Edward Carrington Cabell (1816-1896) was the first United States Representative from Florida from 1845 to 1853. He moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 1837, and he later served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Confederate States Army.

Summary:     This collection contains a bill for the sale of three enslaved persons - Joannah, Jeff, and Sarah - whom were sold at public auction in Quincy, Florida, to a William Monroe after their previous enslaver, William Maner, lost a mortgage foreclosure case against the Union Bank of Florida. The auction and sale were overseen by commissioners C. H. Dupont and E. C. Cabell.
