Biographical/Historical:     Ossian Bingley Hart (1821-1874), born in Jacksonville to Isaiah David Hart and Nancy Nelson Hart, was the tenth Governor of Florida and the first to be born in the state. He served from January 7, 1873, until his death on March 18, 1874. Prior to his term as governor, Hart was a lawyer in Jacksonville. In 1846, he moved his law practice to Key West, where he lived for another ten years.
Summary:     This collection includes a photocopied letter dated August 8, 1847, from Ossian B. Hart to Secretary of State James T. Archer. The letter primarily discusses shipping efforts in the Florida Reef, which lies from Dry Tortugas to the St. Lucie Inlet..
