Biographical/Historical:     Fort Barrancas is a military fortification and National Historic Landmark in Escambia County. Constructed on the site of several previous forts dating as early as 1698, reconstruction and expansion of Fort Barrancas began in 1840. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Union forces stationed at the fort moved to nearby Fort Pickens and Confederate troops held Fort Barrancas until May 1862.

    After the Civil War, the U.S. Army used the fort as a signal station, small arms range, and storage area until 1946. In 1947, the Army deactivated Fort Barrancas.
Summary:     This collection consists of papers from Fort Barrancas, including special orders, quartermaster property reports, and letters from the Office of the Engineer in Charge.
