The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Ship Canal Company incorporated in 1883 with the purpose of surveying, constructing, and operating a canal across the peninsula of Florida to connect the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. The Florida Legislature grated the company rights to all land, lakes, and rivers for construction.
Summary:     This collection consists of papers relating to the operation of the Florida Ship Canal Company. These papers discuss the company's merit as a public enterprise, financial exhibits, and agreements.
