Terms Governing Use:
Biographical/Historical:     The Board of Examiners in the Basic Sciences was created in 1939 (Ch. 19281, Laws) and abolished in 1967 (Ch. 67-596, Laws). It administered a basic sciences examination to practitioners of the healing arts and issued certificates of proficiency in the basic sciences to successful candidates.  The subject areas tested were anatomy, physiology, chemistry, pathology, and bacteriology. The certificate was a prerequisite required by the Florida licensing boards. Exempted from the examination were dentists, pharmacists, nurses, optometrists, podiatrists, and christian scientists. Although the Board was abolished in 1967, it administered examinations until 1969.
Summary:     The series consists of the subject files of the Board of Examiners in the Basic Sciences from 1939 to 1969. There are samples of examinations given by the Board from 1939 to 1969. The records include correspondence, examination registers, receipts, financial records, and certifications. Individual test scores are shown in the certifications and registers.  he bulk of the materials are from 1959 to 1969.
