Biographical/Historical:     The Board of Examiners in the Basic Sciences was created in 1939 (Ch. 19281, Laws) and abolished in 1967 (Ch. 67-596, Laws).  It administered a basic sciences examination to practitioners of the healing arts and issued certificates of proficiency in the basic sciences to successful candidates.  The subject areas tested were anatomy, physiology, chemistry, pathology, and bacteriology.  The certificate was a prerequisite required by the Florida licensing boards.  Exempted from this examination were dentists, pharmacists, nurses, optometrists, podiatrists, and christian scientists. Although the Board was abolished in 1967, it administered examinations until 1969.
Summary:     The series consists of the application files of the Board of Examiners in the Basic Sciences from 1939 to 1969 for the candidates applying to take the examination for the certificate of proficiency in the basic sciences.  Information included on the application forms are the applicant's name, address, birth date, birth place, high school education, and a photograph.
