Biographical/Historical:     Susie Woodberry, born Susie May Scarborough on August 1, 1913, was a schoolteacher in Quincy, Florida. She graduated from Chattahoochee High School in 1930 and then studied education at Florida State College for Women. From 1934 to 1944, she taught at schools in Mount Pleasant and Quincy, Florida. In May 1939, she married Nixon Lester Woodberry. After her career as an in-class educator, Woodberry worked as a visiting teacher and social worker for Gadsden County Schools from 1956 through the 1980s. She died on May 9, 1999.

Summary:     This collection contains lesson plans, various types of instructional materials, classroom decorations, and memorabilia that document Susie May Woodberry's education and teaching experience. Woodberry created the lesson plans as a student at Florida State College for Women and as a teacher at Mount Pleasant in Quincy. The instructional materials and workbooks document the areas of study in the 1930s and 1940s for elementary school aged children. There are multiple pamphlets and books on handwriting, reading comprehension, geography, culture, and arithmetic. The classroom decorations are illustrative in nature and appear to have been pinned on classroom bulletin boards for seasonal or subject-based decorations.

The two scrapbooks document Woodberry's experience at Chattahoochee High School from 1927 to 1930 and her first semester at Florida State College for Women in 1930. They include photographs, notes, name cards, and various mementos. The photo album from her childhood and teen years includes images of family, friends, pets, homes, and the 1925 flood in Chattahoochee. The finance book documents the Woodberrys' finances in 1943.
