In June 1919, representatives of the Miami Business Women's League and clubs in Jacksonville, Pensacola, Gainesville, Tampa, West Palm Beach, and St. Augustine met in Jacksonville and formed the Florida Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs (BPW), electing delegates to a planned national meeting. The National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs (now BPW/USA) organized in St. Louis, Missouri on July 15, 1919. BPWs spread throughout Florida and other states and continue to be active in the 21st century. BPW/USA is one of the oldest organizations for working women; its mission is to achieve equality for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education, and information, with a national legislative platform focusing on economic equality, health, and civil rights.
