Biographical/Historical:     The Tallahassee Genealogical Society organized in 1981 to preserve the records of Tallahassee-area ancestors, to encourage the study of family history and genealogy, and to assist members of the society and the public in gathering materials from various sources to trace their family history.

    The Bible Records Project began in 1987 as a collaborative effort between the Tallahassee Genealogical Society and the Florida State Archives. They encouraged participants to photocopy their family Bible records to preserve the genealogical information they contained. Photocopying opportunities also occurred in 1996 and early 1997. A Bible record transcription project, also begun in 1987 but suspended, was briefly revived in 1997. In the summer of 2015, the Tallahassee Genealogical Society board decided to complete the Bible Records Project, posting the complete results on the Society's website. The Society then donated the paper documentation for the project, including the photocopied Bible pages, typed transcriptions, and any additional materials, to the State Archives of Florida.
