	Biographical/Historical:	**DEACCESSIONED**The Division of Historical Resources was created in 1986 (Ch. 86-183, Laws), assuming some of the functions of the Division of Archives, History and Records Management. The Division is mandated to preserve and protect Florida's history. The Division includes the Bureau of Historic Preservation, the Bureau of Archaeological Research and the Director's Office. The Director's Office is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the statewide program of historical resource preservation and includes three sections, Division Operations, the Public Lands Liaison Office and The Grove. The Bureaus of Historic Preservation and Archaeological Research assist in protecting and documenting the state's historic buildings, properties and archaeological sites. The Bureau of Historic Preservation manages a grants-in-aid program to help preserve and maintain Florida's historic buildings and archaeological sites; coordinates the State Historic Markers program and the Florida Main Street Program; oversees the National Register of Historic Places program for Florida; maintains an inventory of the state's historical resources in the Florida Master Site File; assists applicants in federal tax benefit and local government ad valorem tax relief programs for historic buildings; and reviews the impact that development projects may have on significant historic resources. The bureau also administers the Florida Folklife Program aimed at identifying, evaluating, preserving and interpreting the historic and cultural resources of the state. The Bureau of Archaeological Research is responsible for the state's archaeology program. The bureau's archaeologists carry out archaeological surveys and excavations throughout the state, primarily on state-owned lands; maintain records on historical resources that have been recorded; and assist consultants and planners in protecting sites. The state's Underwater Archaeology Program includes not only historic shipwreck sites but also pre-Columbian sites in underwater contexts. The Bureau also manages Mission San Luis, a 60-acre world-class archaeological site and the only reconstructed Spanish mission in the Southeast.
	Summary:	**DEACCESSIONED**This series contains microfiche copies of the Southern Research and Salvage Corporation underwater exploration log from 1969 to 1971. Southern Research and Salvage Corporation entered into Contract E-18B with the Bureau of Historic Sites and Properties, Division of Archives, History and Records Management (now the Bureau of Archaeological Research, Division of Historical Resources). The contract granted the corporation marine exploration of underwater areas, northeast of Islamorada (Monroe County), to search for the "Gallo Indiano," the flagship of the 1733 fleet; and the "Santa Margarita," circa 1622. The logbook consists of daily entries including contract number; date and time that work was initiated and terminated; the area or site explored for salvageable abandoned property; weather and sea state; vessel; crew; summary of daily activities; and signature of person in charge.
