Biographical/Historical:     The Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) was created in 2011 (Ch. 2011-142). At the time, portions of the Agency for Workforce Innovation, Department of Community Affairs, and the Office of Tourism Trade and Economic Development transferred to DEO. The Department is responsible for promoting economic opportunities and workforce strength through the development of policies and strategies beneficial to the state's workforce and communities; its mission is to increase national and global competitiveness. The DEO also acts as the administrative unit for CareerSource Florida and its predecessor entity Workforce Florida.

CareerSource Florida is a geographically diffuse, quasi-governmental agency focused on fostering the strongest possible environment for the new hiring and continued employment of the largest possible number of Floridians. It is the successor to Workforce Plus, which executed the same mission. Regional boards of directors lead the agency's efforts.

Summary:     This series documents the establishment of local and regional boards that oversee the employment efforts of public and private agencies in accordance with the "Workforce Acts" of the federal and state governments; it contains the initial, founding records of Florida's 24 Regional Boards and their membership. The files for each region include a five-year plan and amendments or modifications, correspondence, memorandums of understanding between the board and various agencies, plan review comments, and board/committee membership lists. Also included are such board administrative records as meeting minutes, policies, and performance measures.
