The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     During its 2003 regular session, the Florida Legislature proposed a reorganization of the Department of State and the Department of Community Affairs into a new agency (HB 1687, SB 186 and SB 2528). The bills received general support but ultimately failed to pass due to several other issues that dominated the legislature's attention. Instead, the 2003 Legislature directed the Department of State to evaluate its operations and compliance. These internal (staff) and external (constituent groups) evaluations resulted in a reorganization of the department.
Summary:     This series contains reports, meeting agenda and other planning meeting materials of the various committees and functional units of the Department of State that were produced during the effort to comply with the legislature's proposal for a merger with the Department of Community Affairs. Reports outlining citizen responses expressed at various public meetings held around the state are also included.
