	Biographical/Historical:	The Old Capitol Florida Center of Political History and Governance developed as a result of Laws of Florida, Chapter 2001-255 which appropriated $3 million from the General Revenue Fund, the Cultural Institutions Trust Fund, and Public Access Data Systems Trust Fund to the Division of Historical Resources. The Purpose of the Florida Center of Political History and Governance according to the Department of State's Request for Proposal is to "explore the rich political legacy of government on citizens' lives; and emphasize the importance of public service and citizen participation." The Center space totaled 10-12,000 square feet with exhibits on Florida's Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary Branches as well as subject based displays on Florida's Constitution, news media reporting, and the 2000 election, among other Florida-centric topics. Planning for the Center began in 1999 by the Old Capitol Steering Committee, co-chaired by former Governors Bob Martinez and Reubin Askew. The committee was responsible for overseeing the development of a conceptual plan for the new Old Capitol museum. The plan, created by Abrams, Teller & Madsen Incorporated, was submitted to the Department of State in September 2000. In November 2000 the Department of State issued a Request for Proposal for the production, fabrication and installation of the exhibit space. The Old Capitol closed to the public in May 2002 for the refurbishment of the Center. The delivery and installation process commenced at the end of July and continued through early August. The transformation took six months, reopening on the evening of November 18, 2002 at a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony.
	Summary:	The bulk of this series documents the Division of Historical Resources' activities as a part of the creation of the Florida Center of Political History and Governance from November 2000 to its dedication in November 2002. In addition to paper documentation, photographs of the delivery and set up of the exhibit pieces in July and August 2002 are included. Records also exist beyond the Center's official opening through 2004. This portion includes follow-up correspondence from the project as well as continued exhibit design edits and updates. The chronological arrangement illustrates the progression of the project from the request for proposal phase to the grand opening and dedication. The venture required extensive collaboration between the Division of Historical Resources, the Old Capitol Steering Committee, and outside vendors. This is apparent through correspondence, status reports and notes. A number of revisions, financial issues, and design edits occurred within the last phase of the project. Of particular interest to this aspect are the Gallagher and Associates, Hillman and Carr, Sparks, and All Florida Electric of Tallahassee files, which show the joint effort required through the endeavor.
