Summary:     This collection consists of approximately 1,000 images taken by Don and Gladys Marks documenting many areas of Florida from the 1920s to the 1960s. The Markses worked with Harriet Bedell, prominent missionary and friend to the Florida Seminoles, and approximately 400 of their images document the Seminoles, including their work, daily life, and tourism. Other images depict many locations around the state, including Key West, the Everglades, Sanibel Island, Ft. Myers, St. Petersburg, Bradenton, Tampa, and St. Augustine. Images include wildlife, damage caused by Hurricane Donna (1960), a fire; and tourist attractions such as Caribbean Gardens, Sunken Gardens, and Bok Tower. There are also images of the Tamiami Trail, Monkey Key, Ft. Ogden, Caloosahatchee River, and the Ponce de Leon Hotel. In addition, the collection includes newspaper clippings relating to Don and Gladys Marks and to the Seminoles; Christmas cards to the Markses from Martha Billie and family; and a letter to the Markses from Martha Billie regarding the death of a Seminole child.
