Prior to that, Graham served in the Florida House of Representatives in 1966 and then in the Florida Senate in 1970. Serving two terms as Governor, Graham dealt with the influx of Cuban and Haitian refugees, supported Florida's reintroduction of the death penalty, and introduced environmental legislation to save Florida's water resources. After his governorship, Graham served as United States Senator from 1987 to 2005.

Summary:     This collection documents efforts to add five amendments to the state constitution in 1980, known as "Five for Florida's Future," and the operations of the re-election team of Governor Bob Graham and Lieutenant Governor Wayne Mixson that began in 1981. The records in this collection outline the cooperation of media and press relations officers in supporting and broadcasting the political initiatives taken by Governor Graham, and shows the political organization of Governor Graham's re-election press office.
