Biographical/Historical:     The Executive Office of the Governor was created in 1979 (Ch. 79-190, Laws).  The Office is comprised of staff members handling the administrative functions required by the Governor.  The Office also houses various committees, commissions, and councils created by the Governor.
The Florida Energy and Climate Commission had its origins in the Florida Energy Office of the Department of Environmental Protection.  The Florida Energy Office was responsible for developing and implementing Florida's energy program and coordinating federal energy programs delegated to the state, including energy supply, demand, conservation and allocation.  In 2006 the Florida Legislature created the Florida Energy Commission (Senate Bill 888) to research and make recommendations regarding renewable energy resources, conservation and climate change.  In 2008 the Florida Energy Commission and the Florida Energy Office were transferred to the Executive Office of the Governor as the Florida Energy & Climate Commission (House Bill 7135).  This function was later transferred to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services under their Office of Energy.
Summary:     This series is comprised primarily of correspondence between the Florida Energy Commission, the Governor's Office, and Florida citizens regarding alternative energy sources such as solar energy, nuclear energy and hydrogen.  The series documents the Commission's activities and citizen opinion and concerns regarding different types of alternative energy and the manner in which the Commission responded to citizen concerns.  The series also includes several files relating to consultant contracts, including with Arid Technologies, RxP, and Valley Environmental Services.  Also included is an Emergency Support Function (ESF-12) manual for fuel shortages due to natural or man-made disaster.
