Biographical/Historical:     Mount Beasor Primitive Baptist Church is one of Wakulla County's oldest continuously active churches. In 1874, Reverend Steven Calvin Revell (1828-1911) and a group of congregants split from the existing Mount Beasor Missionary Baptist Church (established ca. 1853) to form the Mount Beasor Primitive Baptist Church on the west side of the Sopchoppy River in the village of Greenough, near Sopchoppy. As one of eight member churches of the Beulah Primitive Baptist Association, the Mount Beasor Church hosted camp revival meetings on a rotational basis, which were major events that attracted people from throughout the Big Bend region.

In the early 20th century, the church relocated to land donated by William C. Rouse on the east bank of the river.  In 1967, the congregation purchased a site on Winthrop Avenue in Sopchoppy and relocated there around 1968 or 1969 after completion of the new structure.

Summary:     This collection consists of photographs and paper records documenting Mount Beasor Primitive Baptist Church in Sopchoppy, Florida. The collection includes three photographs: one of the grandchildren of church founder Steven Calvin Revell (ca. 1967), and two of the church building on the river just after the congregation relocated to the Winthrop Avenue site. The collection also includes printed minutes of the Beulah Primitive Baptist Association's 19th Annual Session, October 9-11, 1964, and a May 1968 form letter from the church to member Wyatt Revell (great-grandson of founder Steven Calvin) updating him on recent activities and inviting him to contribute to the efforts.
