Biographical/Historical:     Dr. Albert Trull, Jr. (1928-2012) was a prominent architect and civic figure in Tallahassee, Florida in the late 20th century. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Trull graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (later renamed Auburn University) in 1952 with a Bachelor's degree in architecture. After working as an architect and traveling the world for several years, Trull earned a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida State University in 1968. He continued his graduate studies in the Educational Systems and Planning Center under Professor Frank W. Banghart, with whom he co-authored a book on educational planning and performed planning studies for state and school district organizations. Trull received his Ph.D. in 1972.

    Dr. Trull worked on major architectural planning and design projects in the Tallahassee area and throughout Florida. His Tallahassee projects included work on First Presbyterian Church, Bradfordville Baptist Church, St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Apalachee Center for Human Services, Keen Physics Building at Florida State University, Cascades Park, and a variety of office and apartment buildings and homes. His later work focused on ecological designing such as preparing a reforestation plan for the Myers Park neighborhood area of Tallahassee. His civic involvement included serving on the Board of Directors of the Myers Park Neighborhood Association, the Steering Committee of the Gaines Street Vitalization Committee (Tallahassee), and the Board of Directors of the Florida Heritage Foundation.

Summary:     This small collection of Dr. Albert Trull, Jr.'s papers and books touches on his education and career as an architect. The collection includes Trull's 1952 Bachelor of Architecture thesis, "A Suburban Department Store for Birmingham, Alabama" (Alabama Polytechnic Institute); his 1972 doctoral dissertation, "Short-Term Accommodations for Elementary Schools as Measured by the Stage Theory System of Growth;" an October-November 1952 yearbook of the Fort Belvoir Engineer Replacement Training Center, where Trull was stationed during his Korean War service (Second Training Company); a history (1994) and pictorial directory (1987-1988) of the First Presbyterian Church, Tallahassee; a professional dossier prepared in connection with Trull's work on the Unitarian Universalist Church, Tallahassee (1999); books by Edward T. White, Professor of Architecture at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University; and a Historical and Architectural Survey of the Country Club Estates Neighborhood, Tallahassee, 1986.
