Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Legislature created the National Guard of Florida in 1909 to replace the Florida State Troops (Chapter 5930, Laws of Florida). From 1921 until 1973, the Guard was under administration of the state Military Department (Ch. 8502, Laws). In 1973, the Military Department became the Department of Military Affairs (Ch. 73-93, Laws). The Adjutant General has served as the military head of the Guard since its inception. The Department and the Adjutant General control the Florida units of the National Guard; supervise all the arms, troops, branches, and stores of the Guard; and transport and subsist any armed forces required by the state to maintain law and order. The National Guard maintains its headquarters in St. Augustine.

Summary:     This series contains the morning or strength reports prepared by the various units of the Florida National Guard. The reports include the total number of personnel assigned to each unit, broken down into enlisted, warrant officers, and commissioned officers. The reports usually include the names of unit members and the names of those personnel whose status had changed because of discharge, enlistment, resignation, retirement, or reassignment.
