The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     Lawton Mainor Chiles, the forty-first Governor of Florida, began his gubernatorial term in 1991 after defeating incumbent Governor Bob Martinez.  Chiles served in the State House (1959-1966) and Senate (1966-1970).  Prior to being elected Governor, he had served in the United State Senate from 1970 to 1989.  Chiles died in December 1998, shortly before completing his second term as Governor.
Summary:     This series contains files of the Executive Office of the Governor's Legal Office documenting the State of Florida's lawsuit against American Tobacco relating to the advertising and sale of cigarettes in Florida.  These records include Pleadings and Discovery files from the Circuit Court of Florida and retained by the legal office. These records include copies of briefs, correspondence, and signed agreements (both in draft and copies of final forms). These records are all duplicates sent to the Governor's Office for their litigation files.
