Biographical/Historical:     Clay William (C. W.) Keith (1917-2000) was a Florida Highway Patrol officer beginning in August 1941. After completing recruit school in Lakeland, Florida, Keith was one of 30 troopers selected to receive and additional week of specialized training to conduct drivers license examinations, which began in October 1941. Keith worked his way up to Major and eventually became Director of the Division of Driver Licenses within the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles.
Summary:     This collection primarily consists of photographs depicting Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) vehicles, officers, exhibits, training, and public functions. The collection also includes a few copies of "Florida Highway Patrol" as well as publications and magazine and newspaper articles relating to Keith or his work. The articles cover a variety of events and incidents involving FHP, including acts of bravery, arrests, automobile accidents, appointments and resignations, and charity events. A small amount of correspondence, publications, and reports also highlight FHP-related activities and events. Keith collected and maintained these materials to document his time as an officer with the Florida Highway Patrol.
