The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     In 1973, the legislature created the Florida Elections Commission to enforce the campaign finance laws (Ch. 73-128, Laws) and to investigate alleged violations upon receipt of a legally sufficient, sworn complaint. The Commission is composed of nine members appointed by the Governor. With the exception of the chair the Governor appoints all the members from lists of three names provided to him by the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the minority leaders of both houses. The chair of the Commission serves for a maximum of four years with his or her term running concurrently with the term of the appointing Governor. The members of the Commission may serve no more than two full terms of four years. The law provides that no person is eligible for appointment to the Commission if they were a member of any county, state, or national committee of a political party or held an elected office in the year immediately preceding their appointment.
   
    The Commission is established as a separate budget entity within the Department of Legal Affairs. It is not subject to the control, supervision, or direction of the Department of Legal Affairs or the Attorney General in the performance of its duties. The Commission appoints an executive director who shall employ such staff as are necessary to adequately perform the functions of the Commission. The Commission's staff consists of the executive director, two attorneys, seven investigators, the Commission clerk, a business manager and an administrative assistant.
Summary:     This series consists of Commission agendas pertaining to hearings regarding individuals, political action committees, chambers of commerce, and election groups concerning fines. The agendas also list investigations into violations, hearing notices, discussions on proposed legislation and complaints dealing with campaign financing and registration matters.
