Biographical/Historical:     Mary Ann Stone (1851-1919) married Alfred Walter Kirvin in 1868. The couple later settled in Allanton (Bay County), Florida, and had at least six children: Mary, James, Gincey, Walter, Lou, and Joseph Rodney. Their daughter, Mary, married Joseph Wildon Whitfield (1870-1938) in 1891 and died in 1898, whereupon their three children - Allie, Minnie, and Joseph Alfred - went to live with Mary Ann in Allanton. Mary Ann's son, Joseph Rodney (1900-1963), and grandson, Joseph Alfred (1896-1938), both served in World War I.

Summary:     This collection consists of Mary Ann Stone Kirvin's personal papers, which document Kirvin family affairs at the turn of the 20th century. The papers include personal and business correspondence, tax and land records, and agricultural advertisements. Several personal letters are from Kirvin's son, Joseph Kirvin, during his military training at Camp Wheeler, Georgia, and deployment with the 118th Machine Gun Battalion in World War I. Also of interest is a letter of gratitude from King George V of England sent to Mary regarding her son's and grandson's service in the War.
