The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     In March 2008, Governor Charlie Crist established Florida's first Sunshine Week Essay Contest for Florida public school students in grades 9-12 to participate in the Florida Sunshine Week essay contest.  Sunshine Week, March 16-22, 2008, was observed to celebrate the State of Florida's dedication to making state and local government more accessible to the public.  Students were encouraged to enter essays of up to 500 words addressing the topic, "What role does open government play within a democratic society and a democratic government?"  The contest was developed by the Governor's Volunteer Florida Foundation, the Executive Office of the Governor, the Governor's Mansion Foundation, and the Department of Education.

Summary:     This series consists of essays submitted for Governor Charlie Crist's Inaugural Sunshine Week 2008 Essay Contest. Submissions include the student's essay, signed parental waivers acknowledging that if the issue may be distributed publicly and a scoring matrix with contest criteria and the student's score.
