Biographical/Historical:     John Ellis "Jeb" Bush, the forty-third Governor of Florida, began his gubernatorial term on January 5, 1999.  In 2003, Bush took the oath of office for his second term, having defeated Democrat Bill McBride for re-election.
    After graduating from the University of Texas in Austin, Jeb Bush pursued a banking career in Houston, Venezuela and back to Houston.  Bush was convinced to come to Florida from Texas in 1980 by builder Armando Codina.  Prior to being elected Governor, Bush served as president and chief operating officer of the Miami-based Codina Group, a real estate development company, and was active in civic and political affairs.  He established the Foundation for Florida's Future and volunteered to assist the Miami Children's Hospital, the United Negro College Fund of South Florida, the United Way of Dade County, and the Dade County Homeless Trust.  In 1995, he wrote "Profiles in Character," a book profiling 14 of Florida's civic heroes.  Bush served as Florida's Secretary of Commerce under Governor Bob Martinez and he was the Republican nominee for governor in 1994.  He has been married to Columba Garnica Gallo, a native of Leon, Mexico since 1977 and they have three children, George, Noelle and John Ellis, Jr.
Summary:     This series documents the Bush administration's planning for, or public response to, a wide variety of special events and occurrences.  Included in the series are letters to families of Florida military service personnel killed in Iraq or Afghanistan, and reports providing basic background information on these individuals, including relation to Florida, cause of death, age, names and addresses of next of kin,and additional background information (e.g. unit, where trained, etc.); profiles of schools visited by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, or Mrs. Bush, including such information as standardized testing scores, special programs and achievements, and challenges faced by each school; post-hurricane travel schedules with basic information about affected areas; planning materials, including lists of and letters to potential speakers, for the Governor's Leadership Forum "for the nation's distinguished leaders to share guiding principles for achieving excellence with top officials" in the Bush administration; Event Information Sheets (EIS's) about events at which the Governor was scheduled to  appear, giving basic facts about each event such as name of event, date, location, name and background of organization, agenda, how long the Governor will speak; list of potential portrait artists and correspondence with the artist selected to paint Governor Bush's portrait; and mailing lists for events, holiday cards and parties, and other mailings.
