John Ellis "Jeb" Bush, the forty-third Governor of Florida, began his gubernatorial term on January 5, 1999. In 2003, Bush took the oath of office for his second term, having defeated Democrat Bill McBride for re-election.
After graduating from the University of Texas in Austin, Jeb Bush pursued a banking career in Houston, Venezuela and back to Houston. Bush was convinced to come to Florida from Texas in 1980 by builder Armando Codina. Prior to being elected Governor, Bush served as president and chief operating officer of the Miami-based Codina Group, a real estate development company, and was active in civic and political affairs. He established the Foundation for Florida's Future and volunteered to assist the Miami Children's Hospital, the United Negro College Fund of South Florida, the United Way of Dade County, and the Dade County Homeless Trust. In 1995, he wrote "Profiles in Character," a book profiling 14 of Florida's civic heroes. Bush served as Florida's Secretary of Commerce under Governor Bob Martinez and he was the Republican nominee for governor in 1994. He has been married to Columba Garnica Gallo, a native of Leon, Mexico since 1977 and they have three children, George, Noelle and John Ellis, Jr.

Included in the series are progress reports on Department plans to maximize revenue; Powerpoint slide presentations regarding Department programs, activities, revenues, and budgetary needs; education progress reports detailing Department contributions to scholarships, school construction, and other education needs; congratulatory/thank you letters regarding Department accomplishments and activities; Department Long Range Program Plans; monthly reports of revenues, prize disbursements, and expenditures (MD&A reports, or Management's Discussion and Analysis); Department outlines, organizational charts, and Powerpoint slide presentations prepared for gubernatorial transitions; and press releases and announcements regarding Department revenues, lottery games, and other activities and achievements.
