Biographical/Historical:     The Governor's Office of Film & Entertainment is the State of Florida's economic development program, under the Office of Trade, Tourism and Economic Development (OTTED), for the development and expansion of the motion picture and entertainment industry sectors. The office of Film Commissioner was established during the 1999 Legislative Session to develop a five year strategic plan, develop a methodology for working with local entertainment industry promotional offices by providing services to the industries, and serve as liaison between government and the entertainment industry and labor interests.  Encompassed activities included attracting and promoting film and video production in Florida, facilitating access to filming locations, and marketing the state as an effective production center.
Summary:     This series consists primarily of correspondence and photographs pertaining to the promotion of the film and entertainment industries in Florida.  Much of the correspondence reflects then Commission Director Rebecca Mattingly either promoting locations to producers or municipal officials, thanking others for their efforts in promoting Florida, or following up on seminars she had attended or promoted.  Individuals also corresponded with the commission regarding a variety of related issues, such as union leaders and the problems they encountered, city officials discussing traffic issues for certain shoots, indviduals supporting a tax exemption for production companies, screenwriters looking to get their scripts sold, and organizers attempting to promote film festivals.  The series also includes letters from Governor Bush to production companies promoting his Discounts and Deals program.  Photographs in this series were intended to promote various sites as potential filming locations, including a number of prison interior and exterior shots.
