The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     Until its transfer to the Executive Office of the Governor under the Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development in fiscal year 2004-2005, the Office of International Affairs resided under the Department of State as  Florida's designated organization to enhance and coordinate foreign affairs and diplomacy, promote international cultural and educational exchanges, and encourage international economic development.  The office contributed an international perspective to the state's development efforts by serving on Enterprise Florida’s Board of Directors and the International Trade and Economic Development Board.

Summary:     Electronic files of Christopher C. Schons, International Affairs Coordinator, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Chief, Notary Commissions and Certifications Section, primarily document the priority placed by the State of Florida on expanding economic and cultural relationships with Latin American countries.  The series includes correspondence regarding plans for and invitations to conferences; international travel plans, schedules, and itineraries; cooperative agreements with other countries regarding trade, investment, tourism, education, cultural exchanges, etc; records documenting Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) plans and negotiations, Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) activities, and Gulf of Mexico States Accord activities; policy plans, initiatives, and reports; and Schons' resignation letter citing the shift of International Affairs functions from the Department of State to the Governor's Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development (OTTED).
