Biographical/Historical:     Violet N. Stewart was a marine biologist with the Florida Department of Natural Resources in St. Petersburg, Florida and the Department of Conservation in Tallahassee, Florida. In the 1960s she conducted and published research on red tide, sea turtles, and Florida marine and plant life. In the 1970s she served as the laboratory director for Conservation Consultants, Inc., working in conjunction with Tampa Electric Company. Stewart and her colleagues used chemical and biological testing features for this research, as well as associated mariculture projects such as plant growth-hydroponics.
