Biographical/Historical:     The Camp Tom Moore Chapter of the United Confederate Veterans organized in Apalachicola, Florida, in 1895 as a memorial group to honor Confederate veterans. In 1889, several of the local and regional groups in the South united to form the United Confederate Veterans Association. This organization, also known as the UCV, formed as a benevolent, historical, social, and literary association. The primary functions of the UCV were to provide for widows and orphans of former Confederate soldiers, preserve mementos and relics, preserve a record of the service of its members, care for disabled former soldiers, and organize reunions and fraternal gatherings.

Summary:     This collection contains a minute book of the Camp Tom Moore (No. 556) of the United Confederate Veterans in Apalachicola, Florida. Although this camp organized in 1895, the bulk of the material in the book ranges from 1909 to 1925. The minute book contains minutes from the meetings, newspaper clippings of obituaries and eulogies, and rosters of members from 1909 to 1925, although there are some gaps and a roster of pension widows for 1925.
