Biographical/Historical:     Augustus Bernard Byrd was born in Tallahassee in 1890, the son of Rebecca "Rubie" Bernard and Thomas Blake Byrd. He lived in the Tallahassee area most of his life and collected photographs and ephemera related to Tallahassee and Florida history.

Summary:     This collection contains photographs, pamphlets, and postcards documenting various Tallahassee subjects that Augustus Bernard Byrd collected. The collection includes a program for the 1924 Florida Centennial Celebration in Tallahassee and a booklet titled, "A Century of Tallahassee Girls: As Viewed from the Leaves of Their Diaries," collected and compiled by Clara R. Hayden in 1924. There is also a promotional flyer for the Centennial Celebration, printed by Appleyard Printing of Tallahassee.

    Also included in this collection are two albumen prints of Walkins Grove in Tallahassee, along with other photographs of Tallahassee residents and the Florida Capitol building, which was taken before 1902. One image depicts the crowning ceremony of Mae Gwynn as the May Day Queen in 1945. The collection also contains a souvenir book titled, "St. Augustine Under Three Flags: Pictorial History of Fort Marion," (published in Saint Augustine, Florida, by W.J. Harris Company, 1924). This booklet includes colorized illustrations of the area around Fort Marion.
