Biographical/Historical:     The Coleman family lived in St. Petersburg (Pinellas County), Florida, during the 20th century. William Coleman moved to the area with his family prior to 1901. Several male members of the Coleman family, including Luther Coleman and Hubert Eugene Coleman, served in the United States Navy during the Spanish-American War and both world wars. Two men in the Coleman family also worked in law enforcement: Hubert Eugene was the first police officer shot in the line of duty in St. Petersburg, and Harry H. was St. Petersburg's first Constable.

Summary:     This collection contains photographs of four generations of the Coleman family of St. Petersburg, Florida, and of the Naval Station in Pensacola, Florida. Most of the images where taken in St. Petersburg and depict various businesses and houses. Some of the St. Petersburg images include the first gas station, the banyan tree in front of the St. Pete Yacht Club in 1966, and Harry H. Coleman's wagon of live captured alligators. Several of the images in this collection were taken at the Naval Station in Pensacola, Florida. These images include Fort McRae Tunnel before it collapsed and various Navy airplanes in flight and on the ground.
