The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     Pursuant to Chapters 119 and 257, Florida Statutes, the Division of Library and Information Services director's office is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the statewide program of library services, library services development and public records management.  Within the Florida Department of State, the Division provides technical and educational assistance, financial aid, and cooperative services. The Division Director also serves as Secretary to the Library Council and Deputy Interstate Library Compact Administrator.
Summary:     This series contains correspondence and opinions from the General Counsel's office on legal issues, administrative concerns, rules, and procedures related to the Division of Library and Information Services.  The majority of these records concern the issue of confidentiality of library records, censorship of library materials on the local level, and various copyright concerns. In addition,  federal and state funding for public libraries, public record laws, legislation related to libraries, construction, and contracts for public libraries fees are also included in this series.
