Biographical/Historical:     Patrick Houstoun was born in Savannah, Georgia, in 1837. The following year, his family moved to Tallahassee, where they operated a large labor farm in the area that is today Myers Park. During the Civil War, Patrick Houstoun commanded the Kilcrease Light Artillery, a Confederate volunteer unit which fought in the Battle of Natural Bridge. After the Civil War, Houstoun established Lakeland Stock Farm and served as a state senator. From 1893 to 1897, he served as Florida's Adjutant General. Houstoun died in 1901.

Summary:     This single-item collection contains a photograph of Florida Adjutant General Patrick Houstoun in front of the lodge in Panacea Springs in Wakulla County, Florida, in 1900. The sepia-toned image depicts Houstoun and others in a horse-drawn vehicle in front of the lodge, with several Black and white onlookers on the porch.
