The Palmer family came to Florida from South Carolina, settling in Monticello, Jefferson County, in 1829. Martin Palmer brought his nine children, enslaved Black persons, and household goods, and became a labor farmer and the owner of a store and tavern.

This collection contains loose and scrapbooked photographs of the Palmer family. Many of the loose images are of St. Augustine in 1910 and 1911 and include views of Castillo de San Marcos, known as Fort Marion at the time, the city wharf, yacht races, and the beach. Also included is a portrait of Henry Edwards Palmer (1866-1944) in his Florida Centennial costume in Tallahassee in 1924.
