Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Centennial Celebration marked the 100th anniversary of the first meeting of the Florida Legislative Council. The week-long event took place in Tallahassee, Florida, from November 9 to 15, 1924. Ceremonies for white citizens began on Sunday, November 9, with church services in all of Tallahassee's churches and ended on Friday, November 14, with a reception and a Territorial Costume Ball at the Florida State College for Women. Black citizens wishing to celebrate the centennial were relegated to the last day of the celebration week; Saturday, November 15, was reserved as "Negro activities day."

Summary:     This collection contains one photograph of four Floridians visiting Tallahassee during Florida's Centennial Celebration week. The photograph is an image of Margaret Melton from Melbourne, Florida, an unidentified man, Edith Langford Putnam from Bartow, Florida, and Helen Hill James. The group is standing together on Monroe Street in Tallahassee. The photograph is small and the image is unclear. Background images are not visible; however, there is some visible detail in the clothing and faces of the group.
