Biographical/Historical:     Beth Walton was born April 3, 1897 in Pensacola, Florida. She graduated from Florida State College for Women in 1918 with degrees in mathematics and home economics. She taught these courses at Pensacola High School and at Florida State College for Women until her marriage to Frank D. Moor in 1926. She was active in local women's groups and organized the Tallahassee Garden Club in 1927. She received the Blanche Covington Leadership Award, the highest award bestowed by the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs. She was president of the Tallahassee Garden Club during World War II when most of its activities supported the war effort: planting victory gardens, rolling bandages, and entertaining service men.

For many years, Beth Walton Moor was considered Tallahassee's unofficial hostess, entertaining as house guests such celebrities as First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. Moor was a charter member of the Board of Trustees of the Florida State University Foundation, the first life member of the Foundation, and in 1956 was one of the first ten recipients of Friends of Florida State University, an honor bestowed by the student body. She held every elective position in the Florida State Alumni Association, serving twice as state and national president of that organization. The main lounge in the Longmire Alumni Building at Florida State University was renamed the Beth Walton Moor Lounge in 1984. The City of Tallahassee named Moor "Woman of the Year" in 1967, and a "Beth Moor Day" was held in her honor. In 1983, she received a Doctorate of Humane Letters from Florida State University.

Summary:     This collection contains photographs of the Florida State College for Women (FSCW) that document First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt's visit to Tallahassee and stay at the Frank Moor house, and various activities of the Alumnae Association of FSCW. Also included in this collection are photographs of Beth Moor in a Tallahassee parade on an FSCW float. Images also document the FSCW Tarpon club at Wakulla Springs, Florida. Other photographs include former Florida State College for Women Alumni officials, and a few photographs document the FSCW students' efforts to support the United States during the Second World War.
