Biographical/Historical:   The Office of the Commissioner of Agriculture regulated state fairs and livestock shows throughout the state (Ch. 63-247, Ch. 67-491, Ch. 69-106). This was accomplished with a State Coordinator of Fairs, Livestock Shows, and Exhibits, who conducted safety inspections, issued permits, and scheduled fairs. Wallace Rich was coordinator in the mid-1970s. Rich was also the Secretary-Treasurer for the International Association of Governmental Fair Agencies. In 1974, the Florida State Fair, previously a private, non-profit organization, became a state entity that was supervised by Coordinator Rich and the governor-appointed State Fair Authority (Ch. 74-322).
Summary:   This series consists of correspondence, publications, inspection reports, permits, and memoranda  documenting the duties of the State Coordinator of Fairs, Livestock Shows, and Exhibits, which included safety inspections, licensing, and scheduling of state fairs, agricultural exhibits, and livestock shows. The series also provides information on the State Fair Authority, the Florida Agriculture and Livestock Fair Council, and the International Association of Governmental Fair Agencies.
